Municipalities: a Valuable Partnership in the Blue Sky Region
As
a new and developing cluster, the Blue Sky Municipal Cluster is still in
it's development stages. After the 2004 Municipal Luncheon, a new
committee was created amongst a few of the municipal leaders.
With the many
differences that this Region faces, both geographically and
economically, being able to work collaboratively to help each other is
an asset. By creating a Municipal Cluster, the BSEGC would facilitate
the sharing of information between municipalities and in addition be
made aware first hand, of the activities the other clusters within the
Region are working on.
East Ferris Mayor, Bill Vrebosch said,
“The Blue Sky initiative presented was new and it’s probably
something that should have been done earlier. What it did was bring
politicians together, but I have to admit that there was not a lot of
time for interaction. The Mayor of Chisholm (Barbara Groves) and I are
convening a meeting in the late spring. It began by us talking to each
other at the mayor’s luncheon.” Although Mayor Vrebosch saw the
municipal luncheon as a valuable gathering which lacked time to converse
with other municipalities, he took it upon himself to spearhead this
joint-seminar with Mayor Groves which will be of benefit to many of the
municipalities in the Blue Sky Region.
The first meeting covered subjects like
Nutrient Management, Septic Disposal, Recycling and Joint purchasing.
They decided to share ideas instead of independently reinventing the
wheel, which is what the Blue Sky Region Cluster Format is all about.
Municipalities that were included were: East Ferris, Chisholm, Bonfield,
Powassan, Calvin, Mattawan, Papineau Cameron, Nipissing and Callander. |
